Which massages are allowed during pregnancy?
There are now so many different types of massage that it is difficult to keep track of them all. From the traditional Swedish form of massage to hot stone massage and Thai massage – the variety can be truly overwhelming. Not all types of massage are suitable for expectant mothers. We know exactly what is good for you and your body and advise you on the most suitable type of massage. The following types of massage can be safely performed during pregnancy:
- Sacrum massage
- Head massage
- Shoulder massage
- Partial back massage
- Gentle belly massage
The sacrum is particularly stressed during pregnancy, so a sacrum massage has a relaxing effect on the entire pelvic area. This type of massage can even be done during birth and can make it much easier. You can also ask your partner to give you a sacral massage at home. It can be done with the hands as well as with various accessories such as a hedgehog ball. Be careful not to apply too much pressure. However, in general a sacrum massage is easy to learn. The technique is quite simple: the sacrum is massaged from the rump to the iliac crests with circular movements. The sacrum massage can help relieve tension in the lower back and take the strain off your joints. This type of massage has another positive side effect: it can help improve your overall posture. Expectant mothers often find the shoulder and neck massage very relaxing. The shoulder and neck massage have a wonderfully calming effect, as does a gentle head massage. However, extraordinary types of massage such as the Lomi Lomi massage or the hot stone massage should be avoided during pregnancy.
What else is important to pay attention to?
Grundsätzlich können Schwangere nur nach dem ersten Trimester ihrer Schwangerschaft massiert werden. Der Bauchlage ist generell abzuraten. Auch spezielle Liegen mit einem Loch für den Bauch sind nicht zu empfehlen. Um Dich und Dein Baby nicht zu gefährden, führen wir Schwangerschaftsmassagen ausschließlich in Rücken- oder Seitenlage durch. Natürlich ist auch eine Massage im Sitzen problemlos möglich. Pregnant women should be a little careful about the massage oil being used. You have probably noticed that you have become more sensitive to smells and tastes since the beginning of your pregnancy. We deliberately avoid oils made from etheric oils during the pregnancy massage at Soulhouse, as they can trigger premature contractions. These essential oils include yarrow, sage, tarragon, oregano, basil and verbena. Instead, we use an odourless oil without chemical additives or other alarming contents.
